Aleksander Ścibor-Rylski

Aleksander Ścibor-Rylski was a Polish novelist, playwright, screenwriter and director.

During the war, Aleksander Ścibor-Rylski belonged to the Gray Ranks and the AK, participated in the Warsaw Uprising and was seriously wounded. He made his debut as a poet and writer in 1946. Between 1946-51 he studied Polish literature at the University of Warsaw. In the years 1948-54 he was a member of the editorial staff of the weekly "Polish Soldier" and functioned as head of cultural department.

In 1950 he published, written in the spirit of socialist realism, the novel "Coal". In the years 1955-57 he was part of the editorial board of "Nowa Kultury". Between 1951 and 1981 he was involved in filmmaking as a screenwriter and director and wrote more than 25 films.
